With Love Photography

I am a huge fan of the video “Sh*t Girls Say”. As soon as my sister shared them with me I watched episodes one and two about 50 times in a row and proceeded to quote it for the rest of the month. During a night of insomnia I thought it would be so funny if he made one about photographers! I wanted to email the dude my suggestion, but then I thought “well why can’t I make one??”. Humm?? I thought “haha ya maybe someday, that sure would be funny!” You see, I cant even tell you how many thoughts like this come into my brain. My mind never stops working.. and it dreams. BIG TIME. This is just one of those little ideas. One night while I was sitting alone in my room (wishing I had cable tv) Rob came up to see what I was doing. I was writing in my photography journal and I told him I had so many ideas about photography swimming around in my head and one of them was this video, which I already wrote a script for (haha!). He immediately  took an interest! I expected him to just laugh it off and go play his video game. So of course I took the interest as a “let’s do it!”. We took the kids that Saturday to Party City and got a wig, we got a lovely shirt at Walmart and filmed the scenes that day!

Rob had the difficult job of editing it. That really is key it seems, cutting the video properly can make it funny or..well.. break it. It took a couple weeks but I think he did a wonderful job and I am so proud of him. Actually I am so proud of  US for doing something we wanted to do ..for following through with an idea. That isnt that easy when you have a job and 5 kids and etc….so yeay us!!!

But, that my friends, turns out to be the easy part of it all! Actually uploading it, sharing it and just putting it out there is pretty much terrifying. I have a huge headache as I write this just from the stress of the video being viewed. Of course I am silly and dramatic but I think it really shows how vulnerable you are when you follow a dream.. or just a simple idea. I think people don’t realize this.. unless they’ve done it. With my photography in general I am very sensitive .. that is why it took me years to offer my services. And *that* is why this video is important to me! I need to not take myself so seriously. To not take my job, even if it is my dream, as if its a matter of life and death. To admit I am a faux-photographer!

Sometimes you have to give yourself permission to not be great at something. To just try it and have fun with it. To put yourself out there and know no matter what others think of you that you did your best. Allow yourself to just play, like when you were little and life was fun. Sure you might do this and everyone laughs AT you and the trolls tell you ‘you suck’ and ‘you should kill yourself’. And maybe this other video that is JUST LIKE YOURS is uploaded the SAME day and you end up being compared to a very funny video that has wayy more views but …… you gotta just chill. Remember that your Father in Heaven has it all under control. Even this little video and the timing of the upload.. its all in His plan. Just as any parent loves to take her child to the park to play the Lord loves to watch US play. So play your best, know that everything happens for HIS reasons and let it bring glory to God.

Anyway.. long story short here is our video. I think its super cute and I am very proud of my man! I hope it brings you happiness for a few minutes out of your day. Life is short <3
